Best Place To Advertise Garage Sale
Over the weekend, Mark and I had a huge garage sale to get rid of things we no longer needed.

We used to use our attic for storage, but now that it has become our office, we put all our stuff in the basement. We couldn’t even walk in our basement because it was full of junk, so we decided to have a garage sale. At the end of this post, we will share how much we earn.
To answer these questions, you must have clear sales goals. If you want to make a lot of money and get the highest price for everything you own, don’t have a garage sale! However, if you want to get rid of things and make a little extra money, a garage sale might be for you.
To get the best for each item, I recommend using Craigslist or Ebay. People who shop in garages are looking for bargains. And if your stuff is expensive, they won’t tell their friends and they won’t buy anything.
After you set the date, invite your friends to join you. We had seven families for sale this year. The more items you sell, the more popular it will be! Also, our children played together and it was a great excuse to spend two whole days with friends!

Since we moved into our house four years ago, we’ve still found a lot of things in boxes. Obviously we didn’t need them because if we did we would have found them by now. We sold those items as well as toys that hadn’t been touched in a while. They weren’t happy at first, but it helped us tidy up.
This is particularly useful when selling children’s clothing. Proper organization can help you double your money!
There are many free advertising options available these days. We started a Facebook event to provide information to our friends. All seven families shared it and invited more people. This was very important to spread the word. Another place to advertise is Craigslist, as they are attracted to garage sale programs. After you launch a sale, you need to update your post with images so people can see what you have to offer.
Some useful apps to download include YardSale, YardSale Treasure Map, and Garage Sales by Map. Most of the items on these apps are postings from Craigslist.

We also made signs and hung them at busy intersections near our house. Make sure they are large and not too informative. I wrote “Grand Sale” with the address and dates. Remember that people will be reading while driving, so make it very easy for them to see.
If your items are too expensive and no one is buying them, why bother with a garage sale?
We have a rule in our house – if it’s a garage sale, it does
Come back inside or I’ll sell it or give it away at the end of the day.
Garage Sale… Or Something
It makes a big difference when you arrange items on the table or hang them. When you organize and make it easy for people to see and find things, it makes the shopping experience that much better. We had bins of baby clothes on top of the tables and also hanging clothes and more expensive items as you can see above.
Think of going to Target and seeing everything without the price. Doesn’t this make you nervous and confused? I think dropping prices in the hope that people will give you more money is not a good way to run an auction. You should set the bar a little higher than you want. Assume that people will negotiate with you and eventually you will reach the price you want.
People who don’t want to annoy you by offering too low a price won’t buy. Then you get people like me trying to get free items. Remember that most garage sale buyers know what they are doing and know how to negotiate. If you set your own prices, you will earn more.
When you have many families at auction, you need a way to keep track of the money. We use a spreadsheet that Mark has created for his sales and you can easily see who is selling what and how much they have made. The cashier had to sit by the computer and register money at all times (Mark was most often involved) to keep the money safe and keep things in order.

After we finished selling, we loaded everything into the back of the van and donated it to our local rescue. These items will go to a much better place and remember: it is not coming back to our house!!
After cleaning out the basement and selling the items, we made $760.00! Not too bad! Our goal was to raise $500, so we far exceeded that goal!
Her lemonade was $0.50 a cup and her cookies $0.50. But then he made an offer where you could get two cookies and a lemonade for only $1.00! What a bargain and most people bought this deal!
