The second redeeming benefit of doing 15 minutes of homework a day is teaching self-esteem. Children need to feel that they belong, that they can contribute, and that they are needed. They should also feel confident, have a sense of achievement, respect themselves and others.
Self-esteem, self-confidence, companionship, problem-solving are part of the basic needs of all people. When children do their homework, they feel good. their self-esteem increases. When they complete a complete task, they feel valued. When this happens several times, you have children who are full of self-esteem.
According to psychiatrist and psychology professor Abraham Maslow, when we meet basic human needs, we learn more effectively and learning becomes easier.
When a child can complete their homework, completing the 11 steps of the homework process, it is a huge accomplishment. Building the executive function skills needed to complete homework is huge! Children feel good. They feel capable. They feel responsible. They feel confident.
Activities That Boost Children’s Self Esteem
Homework develops executive function skills as well as responsibilities, accomplishments, and achievements. Homework should be considered in this light! Homework should not be punishment, busy work or labor. Given these advantages in instructional planning, organizational skills, achievement, and self-confidence, we should assign reasonable homework. When elementary school students only have 15 to 20 minutes of homework a day, they build executive function skills and self-esteem. They also have free time, free time, creative time. Children need time to explore and be curious.
Homework assessment can and should take no more than 15 to 20 minutes: for example, read a book for 10 to 15 minutes and write a sentence or two about what you read. This task actually requires 11 steps from planning to execution to completion. Teaching children to plan improves their executive function abilities. Complete the giving process”
Studies show that elementary school students do not benefit academically from homework. However, building executive function skills, confidence and self-esteem makes it worth it. Too much homework usually backfires. Too much homework often leads to children hating school, reading or math.
Educational researcher Harris Cooper compiled 120 homework assignments in 1989 and another 60 in 2006. His findings showed that elementary school students did not benefit academically from homework. High school students benefit from a limited amount of homework. In high school, two hours (maximum) homework is effective in improving academic skills. More than two hours reduced academic stimulation.

Since homework has no academic benefits in elementary school, assignments should be quick practice tasks only. In other words, tasks that children can do without struggling with them.
The amount of homework should not be more than 2 hours, so each teacher should not spend more than 15 to 20 minutes a night. (6 lessons in 15 minutes is 1 ½ hours; 6 classes
