Liquor stores in New York state will be able to open at 10 a.m. on Sundays under a measure that will receive final approval in the coming days.

Lawmakers in the state Senate approved the measure Wednesday, and it now heads to the State Assembly.

The measure addresses New York’s historic “blue laws,” which limit when alcohol can be sold in the state. In recent years, elected officials have called for updates to the state’s alcohol and beverage control laws.

The bill is also gaining momentum after allowing bars and restaurants to serve alcohol at 10 a.m. on Sundays and approving a provision in the state budget that would allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages during meals.

As we continue to push for more modernized ABC laws that have stifled the growth of the state’s wine and spirits industry, limited job growth and small business expansion, we hope the Assembly will also pass and pass this legislation.
