Language translation is a skill offered by many apps, websites, tools and devices. And if you ever need to translate a menu or sign, transcribe a conversation, dictate text in another language, or talk to someone who speaks another language, Google provides two apps that can translate on iOS/iPadOS and Android devices.

The Google Translate app can translate dozens of languages using text or voice. You just type, write or speak in the application. The app even lets you point your smartphone at a sign or menu in a foreign language to see a live translation.
Ways To Speak Spanish (basics)
In addition, Google Assistant offers a translator mode (Opens in a new window) with real-time translation that allows you to continue a conversation with someone who speaks different languages. After you ask Google for help in a specific language, the Assistant automatically translates your words so you can continue the conversation with the other person.
Google Translate works on iOS/iPadOS and Android devices. iPhone and iPad users will find it in Apple’s App Store (Opens in a new window), while Android users can grab it from Google Play (Opens in a new window). Both versions offer roughly the same features, but with somewhat different layouts.
You can translate printed text in over 100 different languages, view image translations in about 90 languages, translate bilingual conversations in 43 languages, and draw text for translation in 95 languages. Offline translations are also available for many languages. In addition, you can save the translated words and phrases for later use.
In addition to English, a small sample of the many languages supported by the app include French, Italian, German, Spanish, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Arabic, Russian, Hebrew, and Yiddish.
Ways To Say Goodnight In Spanish
Let’s say you want an Italian translation of an English sentence. On the left, click on the name of the current language and select English as the source. Click on the language name on the right and select Italian as the target. Next, tap the field that says Enter text and start typing the English word or phrase you want to translate.
Alternatively, click the pen icon and write a single-character sentence in English using your finger or pen. As you type or write characters on the screen, the application tries to predict what you plan to write in full by showing possible combinations of words and letters. Continue typing or select one of the suggested words if it fits what you wanted. At some point, the application may suggest all the phrases you want to type. If yes, choose the sentence.
In return, Google Translate displays the word or phrase in the target language. Tap the right arrow button next to a translation and then tap the speaker icon next to a sentence in a language to hear it out loud.
On iPhone, tap the Share icon to share the translation with someone else, tap the Full Screen icon to view the translation in full screen, and tap the Copy icon to copy and paste it elsewhere.

On an Android phone, tap the Copy icon to copy the translation. Tap the three dots icon above to share it or reverse the translation.
Another cool feature is the ability to translate text to images using your phone’s camera. Google Translate offers live translation, although some languages require a downloadable language pack. Select the source language and target language, and click the camera icon. Point your device’s camera at a sign, list or document written in the source language. As soon as the application has time to recognize the text, the translation will be placed on the image and will be visible directly on the screen.
On iPhone, you can take a picture of the translated image to select the text, hear it out loud, or send it to the Translate app.
Take a photo on your Android device. Tap the Scan icon to scan the image, then tap each piece of text to see the translation. Tap the Import icon to translate a photo already taken on your phone.
Using Google Translate
You can speak in one language and the app will translate what you say into another language. Tap the microphone icon at the top of the screen and speak your word or phrase into the app. Google Translate then translates your words into the target language. Tap the Speaker icon to listen to the translation.
Another option is to click on the Transcription icon and start speaking. When you’re done, tap the microphone icon. You can then select and copy the transcript to paste it elsewhere.
The Google Translate app helps you have a conversation with someone who speaks another language. Select both languages and click on the Chat icon. You can then continue the conversation manually or automatically.
To go through the route manually, you need to click on the current speaker’s language icon. Selecting the automatic method by tapping the Auto icon allows Google to determine who is speaking based on language.
No Results For Translation Just A Black Square
Most Android devices come pre-installed with Google Assistant, but if you need it, you can get it from Google Play (Opens in a new window). To use it on iPhone, download and install the app from the App Store (Opens in a new window).
The Assistant translator mode supports 44 different languages, including English, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
Translator mode is also available on Google Home speakers, some smart speakers with built-in Google Assistant, and some smartwatches.
To get started, launch Google Assistant on your device and tell Google the language you want to use. You can formulate your command in different ways, such as:

If you tell Google to turn on translator mode, Assistant will detect your own language and ask you which language you want to use for translation. After the function starts, tap the microphone icon and say something in your language. Google displays and pronounces the translation in other languages.
Then you can hand the device to the person you want to chat with, and when they speak their language, Google translates it. The application will show and speak the sentences in the language you set. Continue this way to continue the conversation with the other person.
By default, Assistant automatically detects the language being spoken and translates it into your preferred language. It should work without problems most of the time. And if the function slips, you can jump to the manual.
Tap the “Manual” entry at the bottom of the screen. Tap the microphone icon of your own language when speaking, and tap the other language icon when the other person wants to speak.

You can also use your keyboard to translate between languages. This can be useful if both you and the other person are looking at your mobile device, or if you need translation in addition to a real-time conversation.
You may need to install a keyboard for some languages before using this option. To do this on an Android phone, go to Settings and find the keyboard or language option. There should be an option in the menu that allows you to add new languages. Then select the language you need from the list.
On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboard. Tap Add new keyboard, select a language, and tap Done.
To access the keyboard feature, click Keyboard below, then click the blue keyboard icon to select your language. Type your message and the translation will appear below. Tap the speaker icon to read the translation out loud or use the copy icon to paste the translation elsewhere.
