Types Of Grants For Black Business Owners

This database helps applicants find and apply for federal funding opportunities. It contains information on more than 1,000 grant programs from federal grant-making agencies such as the US Department of Commerce and the US Small Business Administration, or SBA.

To apply, you’ll need a unique corporate ID that allows you to bid on government contracts and apply for federal grants. You also need an account on Grants.gov.

This is a USDA grant for the development or expansion of small businesses in rural areas – minority-owned or not. To qualify, you must have 50 or fewer new employees and less than $1 million in gross revenue and be in a qualifying rural location.

Socially or economically disadvantaged small business owners may be eligible for assistance through the SBA 8(a) program. It does not provide financial support, but provides business development, training, management and technical guidance.

To be eligible, a small business must be at least 51% owned and controlled by a citizen who has experienced cultural discrimination or prejudice and who is economically disadvantaged because of race or ethnicity. Here is a list of eligibility criteria.

Black Owned Businesses Face Unequal Path To Recovery

The Chamber is a membership organization dedicated to increasing business opportunities for certified minority-owned businesses. It manages the Business Consortium Foundation, a nonprofit business development program that provides financing programs and business advisory services to its members.

This Commerce Department development agency helps micro-managed small businesses grow by connecting owners with financial resources, federal contracts, and market opportunities. For more information, contact the MBDA Business Center in your area.

These SBA-supported resource centers offer one-on-one training and advice on topics such as market research and financing your business. They can help you apply for the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program and Minority and Women’s Business Certificates.

Operation Hope combines business training and financial counseling with small business financing opportunities. In partnership with Shopify, 1 Million Black Businesses offers business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs free access to Intuit and Shopify products, as well as training.

Black Female Entrepreneurs Who Are Redefining Their Industries

These $5,000 grants are awarded each fall to Black-owned businesses with three to 20 employees. Grantees participate in a mentoring experience, and some receive an additional $25,000 upon completion. To qualify, you must be in an economically vulnerable community and have suffered financial damage from the Covid-19 pandemic.

This sponsorship program is a partnership between LegalZoom, the NBA, the WNBA and the NBA G League. Businesses can receive up to $10,000 in grant money and free LegalZoom services. Acion Opportunity Fund is the non-profit administrator of the program.

Each round of this grant application is open to minority and women entrepreneurs in specific cities. Each of the 100 entrepreneurs in the participating cities will receive a $10,000 grant. Applicants must have 25 or fewer employees and be in business for at least three years.

This grant is available to black entrepreneurs who were established in 2019 or earlier and are affected by the effects of covid-19 or looting. Up to 15 applicants will receive assistance during each three-month application period.

Resources For Black Owned Businesses

Each year, three businesses win cash prizes from this competition, with the overall winner receiving a $50,000 grant. To apply, your business must have a black founder and at least one member of your pitch team must be a member of the National Black MBA Association.

If you live in Winstream’s service area, you can apply for a year of free Internet access and a grant of up to $2,500. Applicant businesses must have black owners and 25 or fewer employees.

This nonprofit trade association provides educational resources and support to small businesses and entrepreneurs. To receive a grant of up to $4,000, you must be an active member of the association, provide a detailed explanation of how you will use the funds, and demonstrate and support how the grant will help your business grow.
