Harry Potter Store In New York City – The New York subway is nothing compared to the Hogwarts Express. (The only possible advantage of the subway? If you see a rat on the subway tracks, you can be sure it’s not a transformed Death Eater.) However, for New Yorkers – not to mention the magic-loving tourists – the wizarding world is just now. swipe the MetroCard. On June 3, the Harry Potter store will open its doors in Midtown Manhattan.
Located at 935 Broadway (just behind the iconic Flatiron Building), the Harry Potter Store has 21,000 square feet of magic. WIRE had a chance to explore the store a day before it opened, and while this press preview is almost certainly the least crowded store for the foreseeable future, we got a good idea of what to expect at guests.
Harry Potter Store In New York City
When they walk through the front doors, guests will stand beneath the 220-pound Fox phoenix figure, which rises above a table full of Wizarding World merchandise exclusive to the New York store, such as branded sweaters, mugs and other items. It’s a fitting welcome to the store, which also boasts a wide range of merchandise and collectibles for sale, as well as props and displays that make a visit exciting even if you’re not planning to buy anything. Throughout the store, visitors will find nine authentic props from Warner Bros. films, including wands for several characters, Harry Bolt and Tom Riddle’s basilisk-punched diary. Ravenclaw’s missing tiara is also there, and it’s actually quite easy to find, as it turns out. If guests download the Harry Potter Fan Club app and scan the codes for all the props they find, they will receive “secret keys” containing clues to the secret word, allowing them to use that word to win a small prize at checkout.

Things are arranged thematically in different rooms that all flow together. There is a room dedicated to different themes and equipment of Hogwarts House (go to Ravenclaw) next to the entrance. A large section of the store is dedicated to wands, as shoppers can buy copies of almost every character, as well as many other designs inspired by Hogwarts, the Dark Arts, or the four houses. One design, based on a golden snitch, is exclusive to the New York store. All wands (along with many other items in the store) can be written and personalized in the “items to be named” customization area below. The wands have a nice weight to them, and they’re quite fun to wield, although some characters have better balanced wands than others. (The wands don’t have special features or abilities like some of the more popular ones in the various Harry Potter worlds at Universal’s theme parks.)
There’s also a vaguely Hagrid-themed corner house of stuffed animals and Honeydukes-inspired toys and candies (complete with every flavor of Bertie Bott beans, chocolate frogs and individual Butterbeer bottles with an exclusive design in New York). If you venture below—which you can do by descending a spiral staircase that surrounds a moving replica of the griffin statue in Dumbledore’s office or by taking a powder-themed elevator—there’s plenty yet to be found. There’s a section dedicated to Dark Arts trades, if you’re so inclined. You can buy multiple copies

In addition, there are two VR experiences, but there is no operation when WIRE tours the store, so we cannot tell them. Wizards Take Flight, a VR broomstick flight experience, won’t open until July. Unfortunately.

There is another great feature of the Harry Potter shop – a butter bar. There is a small cafe on the ground floor where guests can buy a Potter cake and order a cup of butter. (Basic Muggle coffee and other cafe standards are also available.)
The bathrooms in the Harry Potter store are regular bathrooms. I was half expecting a hologram of Moaning Myrtle, but I think it’s better to be able to deal with peace.
Discourse can value the store as a neat attraction, one with enough continuity to feel like a worthwhile destination that isn’t so crowded, chaotic, and crowded that you need a Time-Turner to manage it. It’s just a shop, even if it contains the magic of the world J.K. Rowling and the many people behind the movies created. (Rowling herself, for those wondering, isn’t much of a store presence outside of her book spaces.)
Probably the best stuff in the Harry Potter store – if you care to look for it – is from other people. The WIRE press preview is usually attended by mature journalists or social media influencers researching the store. However, one attendee brought her two children, and one of them, a little girl, was visibly excited when she discovered that the railing around the spiral staircase was made of large metal bars. recreation of the iconic wands.

Since there is so much to see here, below are five store highlights that you should see when you go:
Throughout the store, props from the movies are displayed in the merchandise, from the actual wands of the main characters to some of Voldemort’s Horcruxes such as Tom Riddle’s diary and Ravenclaw’s tiara.
You can see all of them up close, but also scan a code next to them using the Harry PotterFan Club app that will give you information about the items and a letter you need to solve a puzzle. If you do, you’ll get a reward at checkout.
The store is full of opportunities for fans to explore, such as an opportunity to “try on” Hagrid’s boots, found in the Ministry of Magic in the red telephone box, which can be transported through the Floo network using the elevator, and even to choose the wand as the Ollivanders. There is even an interactive wand table where you can “duel” another wizard. The noble griffin in the middle of the large main atrium also turns in a few moments, catching the unsuspecting witch.
The 7 Coolest Things To Do At Harry Potter New York
“The level of artistic detail and quality of design inspired by the films means that Harry Potter New York will bring a new shopping experience to the city,” said Sarah Roots, EVP Warner Bros. Worldwide Tours and Retail. “With over 1,000 Wizarding World props on display (including some real items seen in the films), the unique theme, with experiences such as photo opportunities and the unique variety products, there is something special for every fan.”
After seeing Harry, Ron and Hermione choose their sweets from Honeydukes, we wanted to go in there. Now it can. Although not made to look exactly like Honeydukes, the store’s candy section is full of iconic candies, from Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans to Chocolate Frogs (available in packages or as one in a beautiful tin there are holographic cards featuring the founders of Hogwarts).
Whatever you do, don’t miss the Butterbeer Bar, which we reviewed earlier this year. When you walk in, you immediately see a giant cascade of nearly 1,000 sparkling butter bottles rising from the floor and appearing to float above the bar. There are large copper pipes adorning the ceiling so that it looks like butter is dripping from it. A table inside the barris covered with newspapers from
If you don’t want to or can’t get into the store because of the lines one day, don’t worry, there is a pickup/return window where you can order your butterbeer.
